I was born in Richmond General Hospital on January 18, 1991 at approximately 4:00 in the Afternoon. I was raised in the lower mainland, first by my parents and my aunt and uncle and later by my sister and my friends. In my family you learn quickly that you have to look out for yourself as well as the others close to your age. With my father at work and my mother disabled, there’s not much you can do besides raise yourself. For a while we lived with my aunt and uncle but when the turned to drugs, we got the hell out of there. After that I was raised by my sister, Mary-Jane Elizabeth Lentz.

I have been moved around a lot and, as a result, have gone to many different schools. Some of my most recent schools include Georges Vanier, M B Sanford, and Frank Hurt Secondary. With the amount of times I have been moved, I have had a lot of trouble making friends. I am no longer in contact with any friends that I had prior to enrolling in M B Sanford. I currently have a small group of friends, all met between seventh and ninth grade. That circle includes my best friend, Hayley L********* who keeps me sane and frequently invites me to her house to play video games and watch movies. She’s my best friend in the entire world and I wouldn’t trade her for the universe.

The only teacher who really had an impact on me was Mr. Ernie Lee. He was my grade nine Science teacher. If my day ever went sour before science class it would always be better after it. Mr. Lee has a way of cheering you up with his corny jokes, even if he doesn’t realize it. I went into his class many-a-time with a chip on my shoulder and would leave smiling like it was Christmas morning. I was also amused by the fact that he looked like Maito Gai from the anime Naruto. Hayley and I shared a lot of laughs about that.

There are a few things to not be proud of myself for. I know that very well as my attitude towards most people is terrible. I am a bit of a racist which is why racism is not on my dislikes as that would make me a hypocrite. I have spent time with unsavory characters, conversing of things that should not be mentioned to somebody of my age. I am an open pervert…which I must say is actually better than a closet pervert because at least you know what to watch out for. I am, however, proud of myself for a few things as well. I am a virgin. I do not do drugs and I do not smoke. I do not drink and I do not have nudy pics on my computer. I do not steal and I do not resort to violence…unless the situation calls for it.

Over the course of my high school torture, I have encountered the depression that most teenagers go through and, like my sister, discovered the art of poetry writing. I find that I can only write decent poetry during moments of depression or deep thought. If asked to write poetry about good times or something peppy and upbeat, I will draw a complete blank. I have never been able to write happy poetry. It’s just not in my nature.

I am Samantha Josephine L****, born to a world in distress, in a time that is not ready to deal with me. Brought up in a realm of chaos and left to my own devices; Raised by monkeys that knew little more than I did, and dropped into a war that I know nothing about. I’m making the best with what I’ve got and I am living my life a quarter mile at a time. Failure and success are just states of mind and I know that no matter what, even if I end up living in a cardboard box, if I am happy, than I have succeeded.
